7/25 16 miles Hey, the first long run that actually felt good! Didn't start out particularly good as I was laboring to keep up a 7:30 pace. But after 1/2 way, I started to pick it up and ended at about a 7:10 pace. I even came upon a race at WCC that I was tempted to enter. But I didn't want to throw the schedule so I opted to watch the 5K start and then finished the run strong!
7/24 none N/A nada
7/23 6x1/2mi repeats. Yet another crappy workout. I tried to keep around 3min. for each 1/2 mile but it turned out to be more like 3:08. And I was sweating like a pig. Man, where's the conditioning?
7/22 3 miles easy + weights This was my first week of 5 days running. This day used to be a rest and workout day but now I'm working in an easy run. And a a crappy run it was. Three measly miles and I can't even keep up an 8 min pace. Good thing it was supposed to be an easy run.
7/21 6 hill on treadmill Hey, maybe the training is finally kicking in. I did this abbreviated hill workout. It's exactly the same hill workout I first did when I first started training. And this time, it was a breeze. Hey!
7/20 6 tempo Still in "step back" mode. It doesn't feel like it's working though. I did pretty well, running under 7mpm in the morning, but it wasn't as easy as I thought 6 miles should be, especially since I usually run further.
7/19 none N/A Rest and weights
7/18 10 miles This was supposed to be a "step back" week. Only 10 miles today. But they were a tough 10 miles. I just didn't have it today. The wheels started falling off at the very beginning. I was just working too hard to be even running 7:30mpm. And I had to stop NUMEROUS times. This definitely does not bode well for my conditioning. I don't know if it was the super humid conditions or just tired muscles but I just didn't have it today.
7/17 none N/A rest
7/16 8x1/2 mi repeats. I definitely do not like these speed workouts. But they have to be done. Lap times were: 3:08, 3:10, 3:05, 3:09, 3:06, 3:07, 3:07, 3:04. I don't know what happened the first lap but I was slower than I thought as opposed to the usual faster than I thought.
7/15 none N/A just weights.
7/14 4 more hill repeats Still felt like crap but at least it was a little better this time around. Still did the 4 hills but it was somewhat easier than the same 4 last week.
7/13 8mile tempo of about 7mpm A pretty nice run in the early AM. Good thing because it got hot later on in the day. Then did some biking later in the evening.
7/12 none N/A weights.
7/11 14.5 miles, with a 5K race thrown in Did the first 7miles or so under 7:30mpm and then raced a 5K in 20:37. And it felt pretty good. Splits for the race were: 6:36, 6:41, and the last 1.1 mi in 7:20. Didn't win anything and no PR but a good sign for my training.
7/10 none N/A Total day of rest.
7/9 7x1/2mi repeats 7 x 1/2mi repeats in the hot lunchtime hour. Lap times were: 3:06, 3:06, 3:09, 3:08, 3:09, 3:13, 3:10. This isn't nearly as fast as when I was training for Chicago. But that's ok, because I got injured while training for chicago.
7/8 none - weights N/A Just plain weights
7/7 7.5 miles, including 4 hills in the arb Hill day! Ran with a friend through the arb. And when she turned around to go back, I continued with the hills. Ended up doing 4 repeats of the big hill in the arb. I am clearly not in hill shape yet. I think the hill measured at about .75 miles and rises 180 ft. That's about a 10-13% grade!
7/6 7.75 tempo under 7mpm did a fairly good tempo run. It was a surprisingly nice run at under 7mpm. Hey, this training things is almost paying off. Felt good enough so that I even threw in a quarter-mile. No charge!
7/5 none N/A Tempted to run because I didn't yesterday, I nevertheless stuck to the schedule and didn't run. Did the prescribed weights.
7/4 none N/A I was planning to run a 5K today but I stepped outside in the morning and knew that racing today would be suicide. What miserable weather. So I just watched the race. I was sweating just standing there veiwing. I couldn't even imagine what it was like running.
7/3 about 13mi Mein Gott! That must have been the worst run ever. I was already feeling sluggish from the early hour. Throw in lead legs from yesterday's track workout in hell and some miserably humid weather and it was a formula for a disaster. I wanted to keep an average of about 7:30 but I think it was more around 7:40 - 7:45. And I had to take breaks just about every other mile. What a crappy way to start my marathon training.
7/2 7 x 800m repeats. God, more speedwork. Now I know why I dread speedwork - it's painful. I meant to go running early to beat the heat but I couldn't get out of bed. I only managed to make it out to the track at 4:30, prime heat time. I was sweating like a pig only after the warmup. The first lap wasn't too bad at 3:01. The next was 3:02 and I was feeling like crap. The 3rd was 3:05 and slipping. I definitely had to take a break. I should have gone home then but no. 4th lap - 3:12. 5th lap - 3:12. I was seriously considering quitting but then I started feeling better. 6th lap - 3:11. I needed a break but then I decided just to go ahead and do the last one to get it over with. 7th lap - 3:09. Not too bad at all, considering the conditions. And to think, my 5K PR pace is actually faster than the 5th and 6th laps. Go figure.
7/1 none N/A Regularly scheduled weights
